The Whispering Wood
Elara and Finn were best friends. They lived in a small village next to a dark, quiet forest. Everyone in the village said, “Do not go into the Whispering Wood.”
One day, Finn’s little brother, Tom, ran into the forest after a rabbit. Finn was scared. “Elara, I have to go find him. But I am afraid.”
Elara looked at the dark trees. She was afraid too. But she looked at her friend. “I will go with you,” she said.
They walked into the forest. The trees were tall. It was quiet. Then, they heard a whisper. “Turn back.” Finn held Elara’s arm. “What was that?” he whispered.
“It is just the wind,” Elara said. But she was not sure. She held Finn’s hand. They walked together.
They heard another whisper. “Go home.” Finn stopped. “Maybe we should go back and get help.”
Elara thought for a moment. She remembered her grandmother’s words. “The forest is old and likes to play tricks. But it is not mean. Show it you are brave.”
“We are here for Tom,” Elara said loudly. “We are not leaving without him.”
The whispering stopped. The trees became less dark. A path appeared in front of them. At the end of the path, they saw Tom. He was sitting on a rock, looking at the rabbit.
“Finn!” Tom said happily.
Finn ran to his brother. He was safe. Elara smiled.
They walked out of the forest together. The sun was shining. “You were very brave,” Finn said to Elara.
“We were brave,” Elara said. “Together, we have more courage.”
